Cumbria track death leads to train delays

A section of track on a busy rail route has been closed after a train struck and killed a man in Cumbria.

The First TransPennine Express 13:00 BST service from Manchester Airport to Glasgow Central hit the man on the West Coast Mainline at about 14.35 BST.

Police said it happened two miles north of Oxenholme.

First TransPennine Express and Virgin services were affected, with replacement coach services running between Preston and Carlisle.

A spokesman for Virgin Trains said the line was expected to reopen by the early evening.
