Carlisle sex assault victim bit attacker on arm

The victim of a sexual assault in Carlisle managed to bite her attacker on the arm, police have revealed.

Detectives also believe the 29-year-old woman was followed for some time before she was attacked on the city's London Road in the early hours of Friday.

Det Ch Insp Jason Hudson said the man, who spoke with a foreign accent, may have needed treatment for the wound.

The attacker is said to be white, in his late 20s, with a tanned complexion and wore a white top and jeans.

'Acted bravely'

He ran off when a member of the public came to the woman's assistance.

Mr Hudson said: "The victim acted bravely throughout this frightening ordeal.

"She managed to bite him on the arm and he may have sought treatment or may be wearing a bandage to cover up the wound.

"We would appeal to anyone who can help to get in touch urgently."
