Man dies after crash on A686 near Penrith

A 31-year-old man has died after a head-on collision near Penrith.

Cumbria Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash on the A686 near Eden Hall, between Penrith and Langwathby on Thursday night.

The driver of a white Citroen van died later in hospital. The 75-year-old driver of a VW car is being treated in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The road was closed for about six hours to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

Police have appealed for witnesses.
