Maryport underground storm tank plan revealed

Plans to build an underground storm tank stop dirty water flowing into the sea at Maryport, are to go on display.

United Utilities wants to build the tank off Hutton Place, to reduce sewer overflow into the sea and flooding during heavy rain.

The tank will be approximately 19m (62ft) deep and 25m (82ft) wide and work is expected to begin in September.

It is also hoped it will make the beach cleaner. The plans will be on display at the Wave Centre on 31 August.
