Schoolboy hurt in Carlisle street assault

A 14-year-old boy was the victim of a "serious assault" as he walked home from school in Carlisle.

The teenager was attacked near the railway bridge on St Ninians Road some time between 16:15 and 16:30 BST on Friday.

Cumbria Police said he suffered a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone.

They are appealing for the driver of a black Volkswagen Golf who stopped to help the boy and may have witnessed the assault to contact them.
