Twelve mute swans found dead in the Ponds area of Cumbria

An investigation is under way following the death of 12 mute swans in Cumbria.

The dead swans were found on the banking adjacent to the A6071 Longtown to Gretna Road in the Ponds area of the town.

They were found by a member of the public out walking their dog, who found the swans with puncture wounds and their necks severed.

Police believe they were killed by a dog or other animal, between 14 and 16 September.
