Carlisle child rapist Peter Maxwell faces jail

A Carlisle pensioner has been warned he is facing a "heavy sentence" after admitting raping a teenage boy.

Peter Maxwell, 67, of Ridgemount Road, in Harraby, also admitted taking more than 200 indecent images of children.

He pleaded guilty at the city's crown court to four charges of raping the boy and two of inciting him to engage in sexual activity.

Judge Paul Batty told him jail would be "inevitable" when he appeared for sentencing on 15 December.

Most of the pictures were described as being relatively low on the five-level scale of seriousness, but five were of level four, the second worst category, the hearing heard.

Judge Batty said he was considering imposing an "indefinite sentence" for the protection of the public.

Maxwell, who was remanded in custody, was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register.
