Man hit with baseball bats at Carlisle petrol station

A man is seriously ill in hospital after he was attacked by three men armed with baseball bats on a petrol station forecourt in Carlisle.

The victim suffered head injuries and a broken shoulder when he was set upon at Whiteclosegate in Brampton Old Road, at about 07:00 BST.

Cumbria Police said the attackers drove off towards Houghton and a Subaru car was later found burned out in a field.

Officers cordoned off the station for several hours to carry out a search.

They are looking at CCTV footage from the area to try to identify those responsible.
