Worker in coma after Furness College ladder fall

A man working on the site of a new college in Cumbria is in a coma after falling off a stepladder.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said the man was doing plastering work at Furness College in Barrow when he fell about 6ft (1.8m) on Monday.

The 33-year-old is a subcontractor for Eric Wright Construction which said employee safety was a "priority".

A HSE spokesman said the worker suffered a serious head injury and it was "making inquiries".

The injured man was taken to Furness General Hospital and later transferred to the Royal Preston Infirmary.

A statement from Eric Wright Construction said the firm was doing all it could to support the injured man and his family.
