Kendal 'career burglar' Wayne Woodburn jailed for six years

A burglar from Cumbria has been jailed for six years.

Wayne Woodburn, 40, from Lound Road, Kendal, pleaded guilty to two charges of burglary.

A 79-year-old woman was left traumatised after Woodburn broke into her house in the town and shone a torch into her face while she was asleep.

Carlisle Crown Court heard that Woodburn, described as "a career burglar", ransacked another house in Garden Street on the same night.

Woodburn searched the house but did not wake the 62-year-old man asleep upstairs.

Judge Paul Batty QC made a series of orders - in costs, compensation and damages for the emotional distress he caused to his victims - which deprived Woodburn of the £3,600 he had on him when he was arrested.
