Dog shot dead on Birkrigg Common walk

A dog was shot dead as it was walked by its owner in Cumbria, police said.

The miniature labradoodle was being walked at Birkrigg Common, Little Urswick, near Ulverston, on Monday afternoon.

Cumbria Police said a white transit van or Landrover pulled up near the car park and a man used what was believed to be a shotgun to shoot the dog.

The owner was walking a little way behind and police said there was no apparent reason for the shooting.

The vehicle was driven off afterwards.

Police believe there were several other dog walkers in the area who may be able to provide information.
