Canoeist is airlifted to hospital

A canoeist was airlifted to hospital after being rescued in Cumbria.

Cumbria Police, ambulance and mountain rescue teams were called to Hobdale Beck, off the River Rawthey, near Sedbergh, at about 14:00 GMT.

The woman, from North Yorkshire, who was with a group of canoeists, had got into difficulties and was found and pulled from the water by rescuers.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance where she is in a serious condition.
