Plans to close Captain Shaw's School approved

Plans to close a Cumbrian school which has just 16 pupils will go ahead despite a campaign by local people.

Cumbria County Council said Captain Shaw's Primary School in Bootle will close at the end of the academic year.

The council said falling pupil numbers meant the school was not financially viable.

But an all-party group of Copeland Borough councillors said the plan was "short-sighted". Pupils will move to nearby Waberthwaite School.
