A 61-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman died following a fire at a flat in Cumbria.

Stacey Mackie, 35, suffered serious burns during the incident at the supported accommodation in Crag View, Kendal, on Friday.

She was taken to a specialist burns unit, but later died.

Terrence Michael Armer, from Buttery Well Road, Kendal, has been charged with murder and a further offence of arson with intent to endanger life.

He will appear before magistrates in Kendal later.

Ms Mackie had lived at the property, which is a home for vulnerable adults, for about 18 months.

Following her death, her family said in a statement: "We are devastated by our loss, words can't describe how we feel.

"We are finding it difficult to come to terms with how someone could do this to a person like Stacey, she truly was one of a kind.

"She took everyone for what they were and never had a bad word to say about anybody."
