South Lakeland Council retailers beat national trend

Retailers in south Cumbria have bucked the trend when it comes to empty shops on the high street, council figures have revealed.

There are an average of 6.8% of vacancies in the towns covered by South Lakeland District Council.

The figure nationally is estimated to be about 11%.

Towns such as Ambleside and Windermere, which have a large number of tourists, had the fewest empty shops, with 4.8% and 4.2% respectively.
