Man arrested over Workington fatal crash

A man has been arrested after a driver dies following a crash in Cumbria.

The collision, between a Ford Focus and a Volkswagen Golf, happened on Honister Drive in Workington on Wednesday.

James McKenzie, 61, from Workington, died in hospital a short time later. His family have paid tribute to "a real legend".

The 35-year-old driver of the Golf, who was seriously injured, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in hospital.

Mr McKenzie's family described him as a much-loved, husband, dad and granddad.

It said in a statement: "He was a true gentleman, and loved his family to bits.

"He was always life and soul of the party and always first on the karaoke.

"One in a million, he really was a legend."

Cumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the incident at about 15:05 GMT.
