Call problems for Cumbria Police 101 line

Problems with the Cumbria Police non-emergency number line have continued into a second day.

Since Tuesday, people dialling 101 have experienced a constant engaged tone or have been informed that the system cannot identify the caller.

The force said Cable and Wireless was working to identify the problem as a matter of urgency.

While repairs take place people are urged to dial 999 only in emergencies, otherwise call 0845 33 00 247.

Cumbria Police said in a statement: "Cable and Wireless are working round the clock to address the ongoing issues and are in regular contact with the constabulary to report on their progress."

The 101 non-emergency number was launched in the county in December, to allow people to report minor crime and anti-social behaviour, and cut the number of 999 calls.
