Six suspected illegal immigrants from A66 lorry arrested

Six men have been arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants after being spotted jumping from a van in Cumbria.

Officers were called after a driver spotted a number of people jumping from an HGV and running away on the A66 near Redhills, Penrith, on Wednesday.

Six men aged between 15 and 25 of Afghan origin were arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants.

Officers say they believe that they have caught everyone who jumped from the van and no-one remains outstanding.

The UK Border Agency will continue with the investigation.
