Three held as armed police stop car on M6 in Cumbria

Three men from Liverpool were arrested by armed police who stopped a car on the M6 in Cumbria.

The arrests followed the discovery of a 23-year-old man and a woman, aged 28, with injuries in Ulverston on Sunday.

Cumbria Police said cash and handcuffs were recovered from the Mercedes, which was stopped near junction 35.

The men, aged 29, 34 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of assault, burglary and being concerned in the supply of drugs.

A Cumbria force spokesman said: "Police received reports that three men had visited three different properties in Ulverston and appeared to be looking for a man.

"There were unconfirmed reports that they may have been armed so, as a precaution, armed police were deployed to the scene."
