Man dies after car goes into Cumbria river

A man died after his car ended up in a river in south Cumbria.

Peter Benson was driving a BMW which left the A595 between the High Cross Inn and Duddon Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.

The 26-year-old, from Ulpha near Broughton in Furness, was taken to hospital but later died.

No other vehicle was involved. Cumbria Police has appealed for information about the incident, which happened at Low Lickle Bridge at about 16:30 GMT.
