Carlisle woman stole £7,000 from mother-in-law

A woman who stole almost £7,000 from her mother-in-law avoided jail after the victim wrote to a judge pleading for leniency.

Deborah Graham, 46, withdrew about £5,000 using the widow's debit card and spent a further £2,000 on the 89-year-old's catalogue account.

Graham, of Tithebarn Street, Carlisle, received a suspended prison sentence and was ordered to do unpaid work.

She pleaded guilty to fraud and theft charges at Carlisle Crown Court.
