A 47-year-old biker has been killed in a crash involving two motorcycles and a tractor in the Eden Valley.

Michael Bates, from Kelso, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital after the collision on the A683 near the Fat Lamb hotel at Ravenstonedale.

The other motorcyclist, 45, of Berwick-upon-Tweed, and the 20-year-old tractor driver both suffered minor injuries in the incident on Sunday.

The family of the father-of-four said he would be "sorely missed."

Cumbria Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash, which happened at about 16:35 BST.

In a statement, Mr Bates' family said: "It is with great sadness that Michael has so tragically been taken from us.

"He was a keen motorcyclist for several years with a zest for life.

"Michael, who loved both home and work life, will be sorely missed by his wife Jacqueline, sons Tom and Mick and daughters Jo and Sophie."
