A new pavilion has opened at a bowling club in Cumbria, more than a year after the previous one was destroyed by arson.

Members of Castle Park Bowling Club described themselves as "heartbroken" when the attack occurred in March 2012.

Eden District Council provided temporary accommodation in portable buildings, so members could continue to play, as the green was undamaged.

The opening of the new £146,000 facility is due to take place later.

Club president David Noble said: "We were left with absolutely nothing and the feeling in the club was 'that was the end of it'.

"The whole community was dumbfounded by what happened.

"We hope the new building will attract new members."
