Children in Cumbria will have improved access to school nurses after an £85,000 investment from the county council.

The nurses, who provide health screening and advice, will be recruited by Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

Councillor Anne Burns said they had an "important role to play" inside and outside schools.

One of the service's roles is to reduce teenage pregnancy rates.

They also provide advice on emotional health, obesity and the harm caused by drug and alcohol abuse.
