Carlisle mother jailed for abandoning toddler

Warwick Road, Carlisle The girl was found in a pram on a doorstep on Warwick Road

A woman who abandoned her two-year-old girl on a doorstep on a street in Cumbria has been jailed after admitting child neglect.

Police were called to Warwick Road, Carlisle, on 28 March following reports a woman was banging on a door.

When officers arrived, the girl was found inside a pram which had been left in the street.

The 42-year-old mother, of Warwick Road, was sentenced to 27 months in prison by Carlisle Crown Court.

Det Con James Yallop said: "This child was left in freezing conditions and had the occupants of the property not called the police, then this could have potentially had a more devastating outcome."
