Burglar asked police for directions in Carlisle

A "dishevelled" pair who flagged down a police car to ask for directions after a burglary have been jailed.

Craig Weaver and Hazel Lowe were arrested after officers in Carlisle became suspicious. It was later found that a house had been burgled.

Weaver, 34, from Alexander Street, Carlisle, pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced to three years.

Lowe, 34 of no fixed address, was jailed for a year after admitting two offences of handling stolen property.

The pair stopped the police car late at night and asked for directions to the train station.

Officers became suspicious and searched their bags.

It was then found that a house in Dalston had been burgled, and items had also been taken from a car.
