Bootle fire station building work under way

Building work on a £1m fire station and highways depot in Bootle, Cumbria is under way.

The building will replace the current fire station on Main Street.

It will include a vehicle appliance bay, office space, training tower and a community room. The station is due to be completed by the summer.

Cumbria's assistant chief fire officer Adrian Buckle said: "The community facilities at the station will aid our work in spreading the safety message."

The site will also house a barn for storing salt used by Cumbria County Council's highways team for winter gritting.

Cumbria County Council is currently holding a public consultation on plans to reduce the number of fire engines based in five towns.
