Midwife Jennifer Bowns no longer works at Barrow Furness General Hospital
A midwife who admitted failings in two births where babies died at Barrow Furness General Hospital has been cleared to carry on working.
Jennifer Bowns appeared before the Nursing and Midwifery Council in London.
She admitted making inaccurate records, failing to make a risk assessment and failing to call a doctor.
That was ruled misconduct, but she was not sanctioned further as she had "addressed and remedied her failures".
The council had the power to strike her off, but concluded she was fit to resume work after being rated "competent".
Both babies died in 2011. One died not long after birth, the other child was stillborn.
Ms Bowns is no longer in the employment of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay.
Police inquiryThe hospital's maternity unit has been under fire in recent years following the deaths of nine babies and two mothers.
But in September the head of NHS England said the unit should be retained.
Sir David Nicholson told bosses at Morecambe Bay Hospitals Trust he was opposed to any downgrading of maternity services.
Several investigations, including a police inquiry, are ongoing.
The trust has highlighted staff shortages and recruitment difficulties in maintaining safe services at the unit.
