Lakes road flood risk alerts as rain batters Cumbria

Motorists are being warned to only drive if necessary as heavy rain continues to batter parts of Cumbria.

The Environment Agency said several roads in the central and southern Lakes were flooded around Newby Bridge, Bowness and Ambleside.

A serious flood warning is also in place for Keswick Campsite, with a risk of flooding from the lake.

A flood warning has also been issued for the River Greta at Keswick, meaning roads and some properties are at risk.

Lower level flood alerts are also in place for the rivers Caldew and Petteril, Derwent, and Stonethwaite Beck, the agency confirmed.
