Driver dies in M6 hard shoulder crash near Penrith

A woman has died in a crash on the hard shoulder of the M6 in Cumbria.

The 67-year-old, from the Stranraer area of Scotland, was driving a Renault Kangoo which was parked between junctions 40 and 41, near Penrith.

It was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 73-year-old man, who sustained minor injuries. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cumbria Police has appealed for witnesses to the crash at 12:54 GMT on Wednesday.
