Barrow's PartyLite candle factory to close with 150 job losses

About 150 jobs are to be lost with the closure of a Cumbrian candle factory.

PartyLite, in Barrow, employs approximately 125 permanent staff and 25 temporary workers.

Its US parent company, Blyth Inc, has announced it is concentrating production at Batavia, a suburb of Chicago.

In a statement, the firm said it would "create a global centre of excellence in Batavia... and will shut down its manufacturing facility in Cumbria".
