Cumbria Church schools awarded repairs funding

Repairs to church schools across Cumbria will go ahead after the Diocese of Carlisle was given a cash boost.

The £1,021,077, from the government's Education Funding Agency (EFA), will be spent on 14 voluntary aided schools.

Planned works include classroom extensions, renewal of roofs and windows, improvement to playgrounds, and toilet refurbishments.

The individual schools will also contribute from their own allocated funds for capital programmes.

Michael Mill, diocesan director of education, children and young people, said: "Year-on-year budgets are becoming tighter so we welcome this EFA funding.

"By investing in our school buildings we are investing in the long-term education of our children."
