A cyclist suffered serious injuries when he fell down a ravine in Cumbria.

The 38-year old man, from the Liverpool area, was treated by paramedics called to the scene at Honister Pass, close to Gatesgarth in the Lake District.

Keswick Mountain Rescue team extricated the man, who was then flown by air ambulance to the Major Trauma Centre in Preston.

He had suffered severe head, back and chest injuries, a Great North Air Ambulance spokesman said.
