A man has been sentenced for downloading indecent images of children - some aged just five - on his laptop.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how Robert Jackson, of Alexandria Street, downloaded 62 photographs between 2010 and 2014.

The 32-year-old admitted three counts of making indecent images of children - 20 of which were classed as being category A - the most serious.

He was given an eight-month jail sentence suspended for two years.

The hearing was told that Jackson had tried to get help for his offending before getting caught.

He was also made the subject of an 18-month supervision order and will be on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.
