Two men have been jailed for the rape of an 18-year-old woman in a park in Cumbria.

Stuart Milne and Terry Parry had denied raping the woman in St Nicholas Gardens, Whitehaven on the night of 28 June 2015, claiming sex was consensual.

They were convicted following a trial at Carlisle Crown Court.

Milne, 37, of Bowfell Road in the town, was sentenced to 12 years, while Parry, 30 from a separate address in Bowfell Road, was sentenced to 10 years.

Det Con Martin Hodgson from Cumbria Police said: "Make no mistake about this, Parry and Milne did not gain consent from their victim and what happened was rape.

"They have shown no remorse for their actions whatsoever.

"Consent to sexual activity in law is clearly defined and must be given freely and fully."
