Cockermouth coroner's office wedding ceremonies move to town hall
Marriage ceremonies are to be moved from a coroner's office to a more picturesque town hall.
The relocation from Cockermouth's HM Coroner's offices was unanimously agreed by the town council.
The "improved setting" at an "idyllic riverside location" is hoped to increase demand for weddings in the town, Cumbria County Council said.
Superintendant registrar Louise McKenna said the new setting was "first class".
"This is a fantastic opportunity for the people of Cockermouth and the many visitors we welcome to Cumbria every year to enjoy their special day in a stunning location against the backdrop of our beautiful Lake District," she said.
The public has three weeks to raise any objections to the town hall's application for a licence to hold wedding ceremonies.
Anyone with an existing booking at the coroner's office will be contacted.
