Driver dies after Shirebrook bollard crash

A motorist has died after crashing into a bollard outside a school in Derbyshire.

Paramedics treated the man following the apparently minor accident near Model Village School at Central Drive in Shirebrook on Tuesday evening.

They reported he was "unresponsive", and he was taken to King's Mill Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Anyone who saw the man's black Nissan Primera crash into the bollard should contact Derbyshire Police.

Officers also want to trace anyone who saw the car in the area before the incident, which happened near the junction with Long Lane at about 2000 BST.
