Swadlincote affordable homes scheme to open
A £5m affordable housing scheme built as part of a retail development in Derbyshire is set to open.
The 39 homes on the former Wraggs Pipes site in Coppice Side, Swadlincote, will be formally unveiled in the coming week.
Officials said providing family housing was "crucial" to the sustainability of the area.
The scheme will also have 10 retail units, a five-screen cinema and seven units for restaurants, bars or pubs.
South Derbyshire District Council's Chairman of Housing and Community Services, John Lemmon, said: "Providing decent, affordable homes for local people to live in is one of the District Council's top priorities.
"Good quality sustainable housing such as this is also crucial to support the growth, regeneration and prosperity of the town.
"We have worked closely with the Nottingham Community Housing Association to ensure affordable housing is provided exactly where it is needed."
