Erewash house break-ins linked by police
Two burglaries and two attempted burglaries, which targeted Derbyshire householders in their 70s and 80s, are being linked by police.
On Thursday morning two men got into a house in Lawrence Street, Sandiacre, but left when challenged.
That evening two men searched a house in Spencer Avenue, also in Sandiacre, but left empty handed.
Shortly after, two properties in Ilkeston, in Wirksworth Road and Hope Street, were searched and cash stolen.
In the first incident, when the 70-year-old resident confronted the intruders, they claimed to be police officers but left when asked for identification.
In the second burglary two men forced a rear kitchen window and then told the 79-year-old householder they wanted to check her heating.
Just after 1800 GMT the house of an 83-year-old man was broken into and searched while he was in the front room.
Soon after a man called at the house of a 77-year-old woman, claiming to be checking her water supply. While this was happening, another person searched the house.
Officers have asked for anyone with information about the incidents to come forward.
