New £36m Derby ring road scheme is completed

The final part of Derby's new £36.2m road system is being opened, marking the end of a 10-year project.

Wednesday's opening of Mercian Way to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, signals the end of the Connecting Derby project that began in 2001.

The scheme was designed to improve the flow of traffic in and out of the city.

Councillor Matthew Holmes said: "The opening of Mercian Way and completion of the inner ring road is a major milestone for Derby and its residents."

He added: "Now the inner ring road is complete, residents and visitors to Derby will be able to navigate their way to the various areas of the city centre."
