Arriva bus routes scrapped in budget review

A number of bus routes in East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire are to be scrapped due to funding cuts.

Spokesman Keith Myatt from bus company Arriva Midlands said the changes would be brought into effect from Sunday.

Mr Myatt said local authorities were cutting funding following the Spending Review in October 2011, resulting in an overhaul of services for Arriva.

Almost all services have been amended, as well as those withdrawn entirely.

Mr Myatt said: "Following the announcement by local government, Arriva Midlands has undertaken a comprehensive review of its network and has announced changes to most local bus services in its operating area.

"The changes being introduced will ensure Arriva Midlands continues to provide a regular, reliable and robust network of local bus services that our customers expect and deserve."

The company is in talks with some local authorities to see if alternatives can be found. Full details of the changes are available on Arriva Midlands' website, he added.
