Advice offered in Middlecroft over warm weather thefts

People in part of Chesterfield are being reminded by police to step up crime prevention measures during the warmer weather.

Officers in Middlecroft are distributing letters offering summer safety tips.

UV pens to mark property and window alarms to prevent sneak in burglaries will also be available.

Pc Sarah Gerrard said householders enjoying the weather and longer days could give an opportunity for thieves.

She said: "People tend to stay out for longer and leave their windows and garden sheds open at home. These factors can create the perfect environment for opportunist burglars.

"We don't want to spoil anyone's fun but taking a few minutes to check on the security of your home or vehicle could be all it takes to stop criminals ruining your summer."
