Project cuts Shirebrook arson attacks

Arson incidents in part of Derbyshire have been reduced by more than two-thirds after a project aimed at targeting the problem, it is claimed.

The fire service, police and Bolsover District Council shared information and planning to deal with deliberate fires in Shirebrook.

This has led to extra patrols, rubbish being cleared, culprits being cautioned and officers visiting schools.

Attacks have fallen from 15 in April-June 2010 to 4 in January-March 2011.

A similar operation is now being started in Creswell.
