Derby council leader Harvey Jennings in assault arrest

The leader of Derby City Council has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

Harvey Jennings, who was elected to the council in 2007, was questioned in connection with an alleged incident involving his ex-wife.

In a statement, Derbyshire Police said a 49-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of an assault at a house in Derby on 3 May.

The Conservative leader has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mr Jennings was elected as the new councillor for Spondon on 5 May. He previously held the seat for Chellaston and Shelton.
