Bolsover council seeks bidders for Sherwood Lodge HQ

A Derbyshire council has confirmed it is considering selling off its headquarters.

Bolsover District Council said its Sherwood Lodge offices were in a prime location and its redevelopment would boost the town's economy.

But officials also admitted the authority needed to make best use of resources to balance the books.

Letters will be sent to potential buyers in the coming weeks to gauge interest ahead of any formal process.

Future plans

The offices, which are close to the town centre, accommodate about 200 staff.

A spokesman for the Labour-controlled council said: "We have been looking at our assets with a view to getting the best use out of them and redeveloping the Sherwood Lodge site will give us an opportunity to review our office requirements to something that is more efficient and cost effective.

"This is still very much in its infancy, but we see the exploration of this route as potentially a very good option for the town, our residents and the council as a whole as it will bring in much needed investment."

If any sale goes ahead, the council said it will look at various options for a new headquarters, including new build and leasing existing buildings.

In February the authority said it was looking at merging management teams with North East Derbyshire District Council in a bid to save £1.5m a year.
