New £200,000 Derby skate park opens

A new skate park in Derby has opened to the public after four years of planning and construction.

The facility at Bass Recreation Ground was built with £200,000 from the Derby City Council.

Rebekah Ford of the skateboard group Hooked praised the new facilities which are located outside the city centre.

The park will be used by skateboarders, BMX riders and rollerbladers, she said. The official opening of the park is scheduled for 9 July.

"Now we are not going to have any trouble from people who are upset with skaters inside the city centre," Ms Ford said.
