Derbyshire Police arrest third man over 1985 bank raid

A third man has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in an armed raid at a bank more than 25 years ago.

Three robbers stole £7,500 from Lloyds Bank in Cromford, on 18 September 1985.

Derbyshire Police arrested a 66-year-old man from Brinsley, in Nottinghamshire, on suspicion of robbery on Thursday.

He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. A 63-year-old man arrested last month remains on bail.

Abandoned car

In December 2010, Alan Murray, 59, of Pilmoor near York, was jailed for 10 years for his part in the robbery.

During the robbery, security guard John Power, 61 at the time, was hit in the face with a shotgun.

He suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The offenders left the scene in a Ford Escort, which was later found abandoned in Market Street in Belper.
