Man badly hurt in Newark car park attack

A man has been found with serious head injuries in Nottinghamshire.

Police were called to the McDonald's car park in Lincoln Road, Newark, at about 1100 BST and found the victim.

He was airlifted to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he is in a critical condition. No details of his identity have been released.

Police said they want to trace a burgundy Mercedes 4x4 type vehicle, which was seen leaving the scene immediately after the incident.

The vehicle was driven away from Newark towards a roundabout in Lincoln Road, which links to the A1, the A17 and the A46.

The car park and part of Lincoln Road has been closed while police carry out their inquiries.

Heavy congestion has been reported in the area.
