Armed robber threatens Derby shopkeeper

An armed robber who demanded money from a shopkeeper at a Derby mini market has escaped empty handed on a bicycle.

Derbyshire police said a 36-year-old woman refused to hand over money when threatened by the man at the Davenport Road shop on Wednesday.

The man, who was carrying what the victim has described as a handgun, fled down Hawthorn Street, police said.

He is described as white, slim and about 5ft 6in tall wearing blue jeans and a red woollen hat.

He also wore a distinctive hooded raincoat, which was a blue-purple colour with black shoulders.
