Rider injured in Derbyshire as gun startles horse

Police in Derbyshire are appealing for information after a woman was thrown from her horse when it was startled by noise from a shotgun.

The woman was riding in fields between Buttermilk Lane and Bentinck Road in Shuttlewood on Friday lunchtime when the gun was fired.

Police said the 40-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries to her head, face and ankle.

Anyone with information about the shotgun should contact police.

Derbyshire Police said the woman had seen a man, wearing camouflage and holding a gun shortly before she heard the shot.
